Project Management Coach

A major client was embarking on a new project with a specialist subcontractor. Although very well regarded technically, the subcontractor had shortfalls in its project management capability. The prime contractor hired JE to mentor the team in project management theory and practice and in particular sit alongside the incumbent project manager as a day to day coach.

IT Programme Management

Cable and Wireless is a global force in the provision of fixed line, broadband and mobile telecommunications networks and services. Behind their vast telecoms network is a major IT infrastructure. JE was part of a rationalisation programme that took place across a whole suite of internal and external IT services designed and run by Cable and Wireless. This included billing systems, VOIP, network management systems and others. Programme managed according to PRINCE II methodology.

Helpdesk Management

A particularly interesting assignment involving service delivery rather than project delivery. The Internet security arm of Global Crossing ran a specialist helpdesk for clients who had managed firewall services. Jackman Enterprises were brought in to reshape the running of the helpdesk especially around the processes and team formation. Urgent action was required to deal with an ever growing backlog of calls and the desk had to be run whilst process improvements were put in place.

4 Lines Modernisation (4LM)

In 2015, London Underground contracted with Thales GTS to provide new signalling for the 4 subsurface lines: Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan.  This is the largest single signalling upgrade on the network covering some 40% of London Underground traffic.  Jackman Enterprises was commissioned by Thales to become part of the contract negotiation team in the 6 months leading to contract award, focussing on the scope of delivery as set out in the contract works information.  This was followed by the delivery of some specific consultancy packages in the initial stages of the project start up to assist in a number of early risk reduction activities.

Football Stadium Fire and Security

In 2017, Johnson Controls was contracted by a Premier League football club in North London to install fire and security systems in their new stadium.  This was a major construction project to develop a stunning new sportsground.  Jackman Enterprises was commissioned by Johnson Controls to provide project management services to support this project.  Services included team formation, detailed project planning and reporting, negotiation of subcontracts, set up of off-site technical development rig and hands on delivery at the ground.

Crossrail Station Systems Integration

Crossrail is London’s new subterranean railway providing a service from Reading in the West to Shenfield in the East, and Abbey Wood south of the river via a central section of 21km of twin-bore tunnels.  This immense infrastructure programme became stressed prior to its original opening date of Dec 2018.  Since this point, the project was re-planned and put on course for a successful opening.  A consultancy package was delivered by Jackman Enterprises towards the end of the Crossrail programme to add capability to the station systems integration activity during the final Testing and Commissioning phase.  This covered the many diverse Mechanical and Electrical systems along with data and communications at 9 new stations across London.
